do fandom cleanses actually work? if so how?

usually when a fandom gets out of hand or becomes too toxic, fans will start to urge a fandom cleanse by anything necessary.

i haven’t been a k-pop fan for long, so i’m pretty new to this. I just wanted to ask if fandom cleanses really work and how. I see people saying usually idols should get into relationships but i find that a bit more worse, it feels like invasion or privacy cause what if they really want to keep it private. they shouldn’t have to reveal a relationship in sake for a fandom to get right, it sounds a little ridiculous to me or even a big scandal like drugs or something which just seems even more controversial than dating and could cause something even more harsh.

It seems like it works, honestly in my opinion, i think fandoms should just self reflect or simply try to ignore the toxic side of the fandom, or even just not interact. even though that seems very unrealistic, i feel it could be a problem solver at one point, just stop doing weird things. my fandom is become even more toxic day by day, you probably know what fandom i’m talking about. It’s a lot that should be solved, the over analyzing, sexualizing, babying, arguing with other groups as well or plainly getting upset at anything the group does.

I’m generally asking if they really work and what fandom have actually gotten a somewhat cleanse from it.
