What will current top 4th and 5th gen groups will look like 10+ years into their careers?

Fast forward to 2030 and beyond, which groups do you think will still be considered as a top group even with newer gens coming in. Will they have the same momentum, popularity, and will remain just as relevant as they are today if not bigger.

Looking at the previous gens, the longevity is kind of wild. Big Bang is still a huge name all these years later. Groups like BTS, BP,TWICE and SEVENTEEN are still going strong and still pull massive attention every time they release something or go on tour. I know fan wars make it easy to dunk on older groups and claim that newer ones are popular now, but success in kpop can be pretty fleeting. That’s why the longevity of this groups are so insane to me and I know groups like BP are not very active but their branding is still so huge today. These groups are 10+ years into their career and are still in the spotlight.

And the really interesting part for me is the momentum overtime. With groups like BTS and BP, their reach kept expanding across multiple comebacks and over years. Obviously they are outliers, and I’m not expecting any 4th or 5th gen groups to hit those numbers. I’m more curious if we will see that same kind of growth relative to their own scale where a group keeps building, reaching new peaks and having bigger moments across multiple consecutive comebacks over a long period of time.

I’d love to see this level of longevity for current 4th and 5th gens groups where they’re still in the spotlight 10+ years in their career even after new generations come along. I’m pretty confident most groups with solid fanbases will be fine in the long-term but will they be able to stay a part of the bigger conversation over a decade in, instead of becoming legacy acts.

It also makes me wonder what the kpop landscape will look like by then. Trends move so fast and groups can blow up from a viral hit almost overnight and if this is enough to build a strong fanbase to carry the momentum in the long-term.

I’m a huge fan of Aespa, IVE and Hearts2Hearts. With Aespa I can see them having a solid career long-term and not necessarily reaching new peaks. They’ll continue to do well globally and domestically with touring and releases but a lot depends on how SM manages them in the future. IVE will stay hugely popular domestically and will still remain very relevant in kpop spaces but I do not see them having a huge global reach/peak unless they have a viral hit. H2H is a wildcard and it is still early to tell. I also casually listen to Stray Kids, Ateez, TXT and Cortis so it will be interesting to see how they develop over the years as they already have strong fandoms and are currently performing well in general.

I’d like to know which groups you think can sustain that kind of career as newer and trendier groups come in. Who will still be at the forefront of k-pop/pop culture 10+ years into their career and what makes you think they will have that kind of staying power.

This is a friendly discussion, none of us can know what it will look like in the future. Let’s make predictions and we can come back years later to see how right or wrong we were.
