I’m totally stealing this from the World Cup sub but I thought it was a really interesting discussion point: what is a k-pop prediction that you’ve made in the past that ended up being entirely incorrect?
Here are some of mine:
– I have confidently predicted for the last five Festas in a row that we would get BTS’s Ddaeng on streaming services. The closest I’ve been to that was seeing it performed live at Festa in Busan this year (which ISN’T the same thing bighit gimme my ddaeng)
– I predicted that BTS’s Taehyung would potentially be a part of Squid Game S2/3, as he’s friends/associates with a lot of the cast and team behind it. He wasn’t lol
– I also predicted that BTS would come back in 2025 with some kind of anniversary event for HYYH’s 10th anniversary, like a fan muster towards the end of the year, but obviously that was totally wrong – bighit clearly didn’t want them doing any activities whatsoever until the big official reunion album, and all three of HYYH’s potential anniversaries have now passed without comment
– I thought Blackpink’s Rosé would get a Grammy this year for APT
– I thought BTS’s title track for their big comeback album would be all in Korean, and that the album would have subunits
– Way back in 2024 I predicted that Katseye’s ‘global girl group’ thing wouldn’t take off in the mainstream, but how wrong I was!
