**i specifically mean within the context of unstanning a group because they don’t release new music often enough.
i’ve been a k-pop stan since 2010, and this is something that i’m kind of unclear on. on one hand, i absolutely understand unstanning a group if they’ve done something actually egregious and you’re like, yeah, i’m not a fan anymore. i’m not gonna stream their songs anymore or watch their content.
but i saw a discussion recently where someone had said they unstanned blackpink because there’s too much time inbetween their ot4 releases. and that got me thinking..what does that actually look like? you stop listening to all their music because they’re not releasing new songs on a schedule you like? or you’re not going to check out any new releases if they take too long? what if they were to officially announce a hiatus? would that change things?
i used blackpink as an example because it was the most recent thing i’ve seen, but i’ve also noticed a lot of fans in general only want to follow active groups and are completely disinterested in listening to music from inactive ones. to me, it seems like these ways of thinking could be related. so with that being said, i’m very aware a lot of posts about blackpink are thinly-veiled hate posts/made in bad faith. but in this case, i think the op was genuine because i’ve seen similar stuff before. it didn’t seem like a hateful discussion, i just don’t get it.
maybe it’s because all my favs are disbanded, on hiatus, or only have major releases for anniversaries, but it’s hard for me to immediately understand this perspective. it seems really extreme to me. like, can you really switch off like that over how often they release music? maybe my idea of what unstanning means/looks like is wrong?
if you’ve ever unstanned a group for this reason, please share your perspective!
