I enjoy kpop songs that are completely different to my usual music taste, not songs that are similar.

I always see people recommending new and prospective kpop fans with kpop songs that are similar to their provided taste in music. For example, if they like rock music, people start recommending dreamcatcher. If they like travis scott, maybe cortis is recommended and so on.

However, I’ve found that kpop music and my English playlist fulfill different niches for me. When I try to listen to kpop songs that are similar to the English songs I usually listen to, I fall in the trap of comparing them and feeling it falls flat. So instead of trying to find kpop songs that fit the standard of my English playlist that comprises of mostly psychedelic pop and post-hardcore, I’ve been enjoying stuff thats completely different. I’ve found that when I reach for my kpop playlist, I want a different vibe–something more upbeat, poppy, and danceable.

Anyway, does anyone else feel this way? What do you listen to outside of kpop, and which kpop songs do you like?
