It could be anything, like: a song, an album/EP, a specific video, a meme, a picture….really anything that reminds you of why you became a K-pop fan in the first place and still is to this day.
A personal story: Lately I have personally been listening to K-pop much less and I have given up being a “stan” long ago and solely directing my attention to listening to K-pop music rather than consuming K-pop related content. Recently, however, I decided to go through my old playlists while commuting and “Dolphin” by Oh My Girl suddenly came up and it reminded me of that one MC stage with Soobin and Arin that went viral back in July 2020. This was back during the peak pandemic scare btw, and I was clinging onto K-pop music as a lifeline back then. So yeah I went back to look it up, and I live in the Philippines and I was riding a jeep at around this time. To the unaware, Jeepneys, cute as they look, can get really f****ng uncomfortable to ride on solely because the driver refuses to take off until the entire vehicle is cramped as hell with passengers, sparing no seating space or privacy whatsoever. And considering the current weather in SE Asia, the weather was what you expect: warm, damp, humid….ugh. But there I was, watching Soobin and Arin do the Dolphin dance decked in all blue. It’s been years since I last watched this performance, and I remember back then going crazy because Soobin looked so damn cute and he still does in my eyes – but something about that performance was so…..hypnotizing? Without me knowing I replayed it like 3 times which the passengers sandwhiching me probably saw as well but i didn’t care. It’s not even a particularly impressive performance but it takes a lot of charisma and aegyo to actually pull it off and both Soobin and Arin got it. I remember thinking that only K-pop could make me want to seriously and intently watch such a short but sweet little MC stage and keep me coming back to it nearly 6 years later. So yeah, I guess this is just one thing that reminds me as to why I made K-pop such a huge part of my life back then and why I still can’t divorce myself from its clutches even as I discover so many new music and expand my tastes.
