Recently, all the members of Blackpink had released new solo music, and the reactions have been both rightfully good and rightfully not good. However, one thing I had noticed is the way all for women’s solo careers have been discussed in posts, videos, and comments as many are claiming that the members are struggling and that one member is doing better than the other. The thing is though, is that all four members are achieving different levels of solo success and just recently their recent solos had become the biggest solo debuts by K-pop soloists on the Spotify Global Chart in 2026. Despite this, people continue to push this narrative that the members are “failing” and “flopping” even though their solos are breaking records. The fact is that Blackpink is not the only girl group to have members debut as solo artists in K-pop as groups like SNSD, Twice, Red Velvet, and Mamammo have had members debut as solo artists or have had members achieve solo success outside of the group.
And before anyone bring up Blackpink’s popularity and their status in K-pop, SNSD is considered one of the most influential groups in K-pop and yet fans and non-fans are not comparing the members solo achievements to each other. Twice is often considered one of the “Big 3” groups alongside BTS and Blackpink and is considered the second biggest K-pop girl group globally after Blackpink, but there aren’t people comparing the members’ achievements or claiming that the members aren’t reaching Nayeon’s success solo wise. Both Red Velvet and Mamamoo have an influential place in K-pop yet there are no comparisons about the solo achievements of the members. This isn’t about antis and toxic solo fans as they are always going to downplay the solo success of each members no matter how many records they break. This is about fans and non-fans holding to the members to such high standards and exaggerating the trajectory of their solo careers despite other debuts from members of other popular K-pop groups.
