I live in the US and the reaction I see from other English-speaking fans (save for some random akgaes) is “who cares if idols date”. Granted, I mostly follow ggs, but if there’s any drama, it’s lighthearted “fell to my knees, she should date me instead”
I also know the idea of a strict contractual dating ban is probably WAY less common than people think. I get the impression most companies go “if you’re established as an idol, date who you want as long as you’re private about it and don’t make it a problem for us”, but correct me if I’m wrong.
So how actually scandalous is an idol dating, especially among Korean fans? I’m assuming the people that send protest trucks and flood the idols with hate are, like, 1% of fans for a given group (maybe more depending on the toxicity of the fandom but yknow). What’s the domestic reaction to dating rumors? How common is unstanning a member over dating? Like most fandoms, is this all just a dozen very loud and dramatic people skewing the perception, or do people actually care about this?
