[ANNOUNCEMENT] Changes to subreddit rules

Hello Thinkers!

A while ago, the mods decided to review the rules of this subreddit. Many Kpopthoughts rules are based on Reddiquette: “an informal expression of the values of many redditors as written by redditors themselves.” All users of reddit are asked to “abide by [reddiquette] as best [they] can.”

The rules have been re-written and grouped in a way to show the link with Reddiquette more clearly. We have also clarified some points around posts and comments by snark sub users, and around meta posts (as well as a few other things).

It will take some time to alter all the different parts of the subreddit where rules are displayed and we ask for your patience. If you have any useful and specific feedback about how the rules have been written, please send us a modmail.

On the topic of mods, we will soon open applications to become a moderator of Kpopthoughts. At present, there are three mods, and two of those are part-time, so we really need more people.

In the meantime, here are the re-written rules.

  1. Remember the human: don’t be (intentionally) rude, and adhere to the same standard of behaviour that you follow offline. This means:
    1. Be civil to other reddit users and do not insult them (breaking this is an automatic temporary ban).
    2. Do not ask people to troll others, anywhere.
    3. Be civil when discussing idols, groups and fandoms.
    4. Do not discriminate against or make sweeping judgements about groups of people.
  2. No Low-Effort Content. This means:
    1. Use grammar and spelling as correctly as you can.
    2. Don’t use clickbait titles
    3. Link to original sources of content. Sources must be checkable and not from clickbait sites such as Koreaboo, Pannchoa or Allkpop. Twitter/X is not a source.
    4. Do not use AI to write your posts or comments.
  3. No Unconfirmed Rumours or Speculation. This means:
    1. Do not post or comment about unconfirmed rumours.
    2. Do not speculate about idols’ private lives.
  4. Participate in Good Faith. This means:
    1. Avoid stirring up or taking part in fanwars.
    2. Avoid commenting just to be negative.
    3. If you are flagged as being a regular user of a snark sub, any comments you make about the group you snark on will not receive the benefit of the doubt.
    4. Avoid gloating or putting down other groups or fandoms just to pump up your favourites.
    5. Do not make meta posts about other subreddits. These posts often break Rule 1.
  5. Post to the correct subreddit. This means:
    1. Cut-and-paste news articles belong in r/kpop.
    2. Simple questions belong in r/kpophelp.
    3. Selling and questions about merch belong in r/kpopforsale.
    4. Rants go in r/kpoprants.
    5. Posts about specific groups and their achievements, concerts, albums and music are all appropriate for this subreddit.
  6. No Repetitive Posts or Spamming. This means:
    1. Look for recent posts on the same topic. It is not necessary for you to make a new post to talk about how wrong the old one was.
    2. Make sure there is no active megathread.
    3. Do not post the same comment repeatedly.
  7. Be familiar with the subreddit rules, including the banned topics.
    1. This subreddit has 2 banned topics. Be aware of them and do not make posts or comments attempting to spark discussion on them.
    2. Do not use misspellings, symbols or emojis to censor words.
