I’m genuinely asking because I’ve tried multiple times to get into SEVENTEEN and become a Carat, but I just can’t seem to understand the hype.
I like Seungkwan — I think he’s genuinely funny and he has a lot of personality, especially from the variety shows he’s been on. Their vocals are also good, but personally I don’t find them particularly outstanding compared to groups like EXO.
And musically… aside from HOT and Very Nice, I honestly haven’t found many of their songs that made me think “wow, this is something special.” Maybe I just haven’t listened to the right songs, but their discography hasn’t really stood out to me.
I also don’t really understand why they’re considered such a huge and influential group. What exactly do you think made SEVENTEEN so successful? Their music? Performances? Variety content? The members’ personalities? Their self-producing? Their fandom?
And was PLEDIS already successful before SEVENTEEN, or did SEVENTEEN basically become the group that made the company what it is today?
I’m genuinely curious, so Carats, please explain the appeal to me 😭 What am I missing?
