I had the pleasure of going to see Aespa this week in DC. I am not what I would consider to be a My or hardcore stan but I have a majority of their catalog on my playlists and enjoy seeing their content and show appearances (them on the Daily Show was super cool).
I am curious if what I think of concerts is typical. I’ll bullet point my thoughts for ease of reading:
– crowd was pretty well diverse, more than I expected tbh though no reason why it shouldn’t have been. Young, old, all backgrounds. Only BIBI imo had a more diverse group from the concerts I’ve been to (this was number 4 for me)
– I would say it was all in all about 35-40% perceived live singing with a good portion obvious lip sync though it did not bother me as much as I thought it would since I have come to expect that by now. Early set with full dance choreo was all lip sync. They did start their second set with handhelds and sang while seated on stage bleachers which was kinda cool.
– I got the Hi-Bye VIP package which while I was glad I did I must say it was kinda awkward. They have them in the arena hallway in front of a black curtain with a table in front of them and a barrier in front of the table and we were told to just walk by swiftly, no pics, videos or gifts or conversations. It had zoo vibes and I felt weird though they were smiling and warm. Taller than I thought they’d be though they may have still been in concert shoes.
For me not being a hardcore fan, I was really pleased overall as I have seen plenty of discourse about their stage energy. For me they all gave good effort, imo only Ning Ning kinda had some blank face at times.
My only real critique was they started a little late and only gave two brief interactions during the concert. I was hoping for something between the barely anything they did and how Twice goofs around on stage for a third of the concert lol.
