I know people hate this group. Heck I even too hate their Title tracks. But, feats are achieved to be commended no matter what.
Babymonster set a record for the highest attendance among 4th and 5th Gen girl groups at the Kyocera Dome Osaka, drawing 90,000 fans across 2 sold-out nights on September 22 and 23. They are the first and the only 5th gen group (as of now) to completely sell-out a consecutive two-night stadium-scale stand at the Kyocera Dome. They also made as the fastest girl group since debut to achieve this milestone.
They are finishing their Japan leg of the massive Choom World Tour, as they move on to their next leg soon. This whole tour projected to continue until the later half of the next year, 2027. As the LATAM leg also has been added, the tour turns into a 5 continent-tour that marks as the first by a 5th Gen group.
I mean I don’t like YG as a company, but they always put focus and invest on the most efficient and profitable aspect in this business. Statistically, tours and live shows are seen as the most profitable revenue stream standalone in the whole music industry. Especially in an industry like Kpop, concert tours are recognized as the single largest source of income for both the companies and artists alike. While album sales and streaming build a fanbase, live stadium and arena tours generate massive profits through ticket sales, VIP packages, and merchandise. The gap between the profit streams is large.
I have seen few posts these past days about another 5th gen group for their surprising lack of attendance pull (i won’t take the name coz i know heads gonna jump me in the comments). And the discussion was over how they have more casual fans than hardcore fanbase. This Babymonster achievement is a live example, to how a hardcore fanbase is made. From the Live Shows and Tours ! That’s what many companies ignore or put less emphasis on. I am confident on only two 5th gen groups (as of now) when it comes to nailing a blockbuster live show – Babymonster and Cortis. Both these groups have pretty long career ahead, if they continue like how they doing now. I also have high expectations from the next Cortis tour. I know that gonna be huge.
Companies need to understand this. You can’t just sit after pulling all the casual fans. You gotta go on tours repeatedly. That way only you can turn those casual fans into hardcore ones. You gotta visit them in their cities. That’s what mega groups did in the past.
YG especially, has always been about the Live Shows and Tours. Someone asked the other day that how is YG still among the big 4. This is one of the reasons. I won’t say the only reason coz a company is run by the investors and trusties’ money, when we speak from a business perspective. So, as long as these big people are behind the company, no matter how bad the company does in the quarters, it won’t lose it’s stand no matter what. But coming back to the point, no matter how bad the album sales do for groups like Treasure, they still do multiple tours to maintain that hardcore fanbase. That’s why they still sell out venues. Other companies need to push their artists for live shows and tours.
Anyways, this was an appreciation post for Babymonster and their achievement. So, yaa bigups to them. And I hope other groups in 5th gen also step up their game coz 5th gen as a whole generation has a long way to go.
