i would say i’m pretty chill about most kpop “controversies”. idk if it’s because i don’t care enough or if i’m mentally distanced from idols, but most of the discussions seem more like complaining than actually bringing up an important issue. an idol “not being a real rapper”, “wearing a revealing outfit on stage” or “singing an indian song 12 years ago” i just cant pretend it really bothers me.
at the same time, i don’t mind that this stuff brings up discussion, it’s healthy not to blindly idolize artists, but rather respectfully discuss their wrong behaviors.
sometimes though, some people speak about kpop with such pure disgust i’m thinking “what is this person still doing here then?”. i agree with most of it – kpop being racist, ignorant, parasocial, creepy, capitalistic, a cash grab etc. but when i see people who get very loud and very aggressive with their hatred towards this industry, i can’t help but wonder… why do they still belong to that community then? why do they actively engage in fandoms, follow new releases etc? i just dont think i would do that if i hated an industry this much, i just wouldn’t want to associate with it at all.
pls don’t come for me. im just trying to understand, no hate to any mentality or pov, i can’t judge
