I’m always baffled whenever I see fans confidently say “You don’t know my fave like I do. You’re not a fan!” I understand that parasocial relationships can make people feel like they’re close with their faves but we’re not actually their friends. We don’t have their phone numbers, we don’t know what’s going on in their private lives, we can’t just hang out when we’re bored. We only know what they choose to show us.
I watched a documentary yesterday about a man who discovered that his best friend of 15 years was actually a murderer and he had no idea. It made me think once again how little we can truly know about people even the ones closest to us. Sometimes we don’t even fully know our own family members or best friends.
So with this whole issue involving Heeseung, whenever I see Engenes saying things like “I know Heeseung, he would never do this, he was forced” I want to rip my hair out. Just stop. You don’t know him. We don’t fully know our favorite artists. None of us do.
