Maybe LE SSERAFIM aren’t actually the ‘fearless girls’. Maybe they’re five girls who are terrified of being seen as weak, and Source Music turned that fear into a concept.

The more I think about their concept, the more ironic it feels. Their whole image is built around ‘I don’t care what anyone thinks’, yet so much of their music is about proving themselves, overcoming insecurity, wanting validation, or convincing themselves they’re strong.

That’s why I sometimes find their vulnerable moments more convincing than the ‘I’m untouchable’ ones. When they’re allowed to sound scared, insecure or emotional, they actually feel like individuals instead of five people performing the same character.

And I don’t think confidence is necessarily their natural group identity. It feels more like something they’re constantly trying to achieve.

Which makes me wonder if Source Music accidentally built the entire concept around their biggest insecurity: They’re not fearless. They’re afraid of being seen as weak, so they made fearlessness their brand.
