As a gen z kid born in 2002 , my opinion is there are two kpop group that represent 2nd gen boy group era. The first one would be tvxq and I believe they are the representative of what I would call idol with perfect vocal, dance, visual and stage presence. They also have the biggest fandom back then and open the way for boy group in Japan. It’s a shame they literally vanish in kpop industry after jyj left the group. Although I would say they are still incredibly popular in Japan, they made opening and ending for one piece.but I’m not sure if there’s big demand outside of east Asia. They dominated early 2nd gen (2003-2005)
Now the reason why I believe there are two boy group that represent 2nd gen era is because that another group is bigbang. Tvxq is what I would call the ” the formula idol” with that package while bigbang is the rebel of industry at the time. They didn’t do synchroniced dance, have visual that are called ugly by kpoppers and Korean at the time but they managed to free themselves from kpop fans judgement. They popularized rapline in kpop group, songwriting and I believe the first self produced boy group that involved themselves heavily in every track and album. Their music are still relevant and I believe they dominated the late 2nd gen era 2006-2008 (the time period they are active). They are still selling out staidum tours right now and ranking #1 in chart everytime they release a new song, a feat which was hard to do for older group.
There are other kpop groups , but I think this two groups are the one that carried the biggest impact toward kpop industry. And of course the face of 2nd gen at the time. Although I do believe people seem to think suju or SHINee more when they think of 2nd gen than tvxq which is sad because tvxq is literally that group during 2nd gen era
Forgive my English because it’s not my first language.
