There’s a clip going viral of Karina and Winter in the variety show Please Take Care of My Refrigerator, also known as Chef & My Fridge. In the clip they show the contents of Karina’s fridge. The premise of the show is that the guests bring the contents of their fridge and then two competing chefs have to cook a dish with the ingredients found in there. Overall a pretty harmless cooking show. It’s actually pretty famous too, even the president appeared as a guest.
Apparently it’s the first time some people know about this show, and the reactions have been way over the top. “Koreans are so strange, why are they reacting at a refrigerator” “Koreans gag at anything” “Koreans gotta be a social experiment” “They make a show out of anything” and…just yeah, stuff like that. It reached a point where many korean socmed users saw the reactions and are pissed.
This reaction is crazy to me. Just way over the top. What’s so weird about this show? How is it so strange that it gets this type of pearl clutching reaction? I became a K-Pop fan in 2015, and sure, many of the things related to korean pop culture and variety culture were new to me and many others getting into K-Pop, but I don’t remember seeing any type of reaction like this. New fans, even during the BTS and BP explosion back in 2017-2019, weren’t constantly making fun of K-Pop related culture. And this is just an example, but I see this type of reaction over pretty harmless or normal stuff.
It’s just sad to see. Why get into K-Pop in the first place if you think everything they do is weird? It’s not even local populace making these comments, most of the accounts acting weirded out have K-Pop idols as profile picture.
When did people get so comfortable making these type of comments about korean pop culture?
