Recently I’ve been seeing STAYs across my timeline bashing Bang Chan for asking them to respect the members of TWICE.
I understand that there’s generally beef between STAYs and ONCEs and that that’s the general order of the universe when it comes to k-pop groups, especially bigger ones from the same company, but to see people say that they wish Chan would “shut the fuck up” or stop interjecting in fanwars is odd to me because 1) personally I don’t see an issue with asking fans to respect the members of TWICE, who’ve done nothing to stoke this fanwar and 2) I just don’t think that’s the way you should respond to someone rightfully telling you that the way you’re going about something is weird and wrong.
I have a lot of feelings about how Bang Chan interacts with STAYs generally, in the sense that I think he’s just given them too much of himself and now they view him as someone they can push around and say things to casually, or that they feel a need to protect him and so they lash out on other fanbases as a result. But this incident in particular just feels like another major breakdown in communication that highlights how entitled some STAYs can feel when it comes to the members and to the group on a whole.
TL;DR: Some STAYs are very off-putting and forget to treat idols like they are real people. I don’t think it’s fair to say strange things about other groups and then act out when Bang Chan asks you not to do that, but I think their behavior is a consequence of Bang Chan giving them too much access to him in the past. Ah well.
