Anyone else see parallels between idols and pro-wrestlers?

Both wrestlers and idols start training young for an opportunity which may or may not pay off with most never reaching the big leagues. Those who succeed endure immense physical and mental strain for their audience. K-pop and pro-wrestling are often dismissed by the mainstream, yet they attract diehard fans, with performers breaking down their bodies and adopting distinct personas to win over those rabid crowds. Be it The Rock raising his eyebrow, Leesol saying wink wink in 404, or Chaewon’s Boompala intro, even the slightest mannerism, gesture, or phrase holds immediate weight. Their charisma tells half the story. Fans form attachment to the characters and personalities outside the performances.

Both professions are like a fast paced traveling circus with little off time. Wrestlers have to keep up their cardio in the ring by doing lots of physical training in between shows, the same way idols have to rigorously excercise on a routine basis. There’s also eerie similarities in how pro-wrestlers and idols push themselves to extreme lengths. Wrestlers fall on their back almost every night, while idols undergo intense dieting and work hours into the night to perfect things like their choreography. Many wrestlers get addicted to pain killers to cope with the pain, and in a similar vein I read of idols who resorted to using IV drips after intense shows. All these things entail long term wear and tear on one’s body and mental health. Idols and pro-wrestlers make immense sacrifices for us fans and they deserve our respect for that.

Now that I said my peace, I’m curious which points stand out to you guys? What would you add to this post? I’m especially curious to hear from Kpop fans who also like pro-wrestling. Thanks for reading.
