Both Bigbang and 2NE1 are considered one of the most successful and influential groups in K-pop and are responsible for inspiring many idols inside of the K-pop industry. However, outside of group success, the members of 2NE1 didn’t really reach that solo star potential compared to Bigbang as aside of Seungri each member of Bigbang has had solo momentum and success outside of the group. G-dragon is considered the “King of K-pop” and has had multiple number one hits on the domestic scene. Taeyang has had successful solo tours while Daesung has a successful variety show as well as having successful sold out concerts as a solo artist. Even T.O.P. is finding his footing again as a solo artist after his 2017 marijuana scandal which had caused his career to be put on hold before continuing his solo career in the Netflix series Squid Game.
However, it seems that the members of 2NE1 couldn’t reach solo potential outside of the group as aside from Dara becoming variety star, the rest of the members has had trouble finding their own fitting outside of the group and their disbandment in 2016. Many people had attributed mismanagements and scandals as to why the rest of the members weren’t able to reach their solo potential outside of the group however aside from mismanagement, both G-dragon and Daesung have had massive scandals that could have ended their careers yet they were able to bounce back and succeed. I think that CL and Bom had potential as they had experienced early solo success during their time in the group however certain situations had caused their momentum to slow down. It makes me curious considering the times and generations both groups had debuted in and the different levels of success that they were able to achieve So all in all, how come the members of 2NE1 weren’t able to achieve solo momentum as their Bigbang peers despite both groups debuting in the same generation and under the same company?
