Prosecuters have taken up the case against this reporter and that is great.
Rough sketch of the situation:
The Boyz signed with 100 after their old contract with IST was up. The whole group were given very good signing bonuses to join 100.
About 6 months into their contract (after several scandals that were really overblown) They were in Japan for an event. After the event Hak went to a bar for a birthday party. There was a retired adult actress there. He was photographed with her. That’s it. There are no pictures of them leaving together. Hak went back to his hotel late.
He was then confronted by his company. He was put on leave due to the scandal.
Then the reporter came out and wrote a story that claimed this was a case of prostitution.
100 dropped Hak and then sues to recover the signing bonus and damages totaling 5 million dollars.
The reporter only had sources from inside 100. They did not reach out to Hak directly, or the AV actress who was photographed with him. Or look for any witnesses.
Now the reporter is going to court for libel.
But I could see lots of companies following this kind of playbook. They go to reporters and feed them stories all the time. Journalists should be held to some standards and not just take the company‘s word (who in this case might have been looking for a payout from Hak). If he wins his lawsuits it could protect a lot of idols from predatory companies and bad “journalists.”
