There’s this heated discourse I’ve been seeing in their fandom recently mostly from the toxic side of the fandom (solos) and I noticed a lot of Sakura’s stans say that she saved the group during their debut year + contributes to a lot of the opportunities they get in Japan (that can be true you can’t deny her impact in Japan though)
From what I’ve seen her c-fanbase bought over 100k albums for their Fearless debut which is very impressive and shows her core fanbase strengths, she’s also the only member who has ranked higher then the group name on brand value in Japan from what I’ve seen.
On top of that Source Music admitted in their statement they did for the accusations of “stealing” a brand deal, that they used the ongoing relationship that Sakura had with LV to turn it to a group deal which riled up Sakura’s solo fanbase.
I know some of you will say “toxic solos complaints are nonsense and don’t pay attention to it”, but this discourse reached my feed based off of some of the people I follow on Twitter, who engage with lsfm’s fanbase and such and I saw the heated discourse and found it interesting.
But to put my two cents in; Antifragile basically helped the group get off of rocky ground + their iconic end of the year performance run in 2022 helped save the group from their debut scandal and skyrocketed their careers even as a non fan I noticed an uptick in popularity from the members especially Yunjin and Eunchae all of the group basically had a lot of attention.
I will say it was a group more of a effort rather than one particular member, saying “Sakura saved the group because her cfans purchased 100k albums” is a disservice towards the other member who put in the effort as well.
I’m curious to see the opinions of what Fearnots have to say about this.
