Current state of aid for the bereaved families of the disaster

Regarding the Jeju Air passenger plane crash at Muan International Airport in South Jeolla Province on December 29, 2024, the government is implementing various support measures. The main measures are as follows:

1. Operation of the Central Disaster and Safety Countermeasures Headquarters (CDSCH)

The CDSCH has been activated under the direction of Acting President Choi Sang-mok, and relevant ministries, including the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport (MOLIT) and the Ministry of the Interior and Safety (MOIS), are closely cooperating. Muan-gun has been declared a special disaster area to expand additional support.

2. Rescue and Emergency Medical Support

All available equipment, personnel, and infrastructure are being mobilized to prioritize life-saving efforts. The National Fire Agency, police, military, and Coast Guard are conducting rescue operations at the scene, and the emergency medical system has been strengthened to support the victims and their families.

3. Investigation of the Cause of the Accident and Prevention of Recurrence

Experts, including seven investigators from the Aviation and Railway Accident Investigation Board (ARAIB), have been dispatched to the scene to investigate the cause of the accident. Based on the findings, measures to prevent recurrence will be established.

4.. Budget and Financial Support

The Ministry of Economy and Finance has formed a task force (TF) to respond to the Muan accident and is reviewing budget support. Additionally, an emergency “Code-Orange” has been issued to strengthen disaster medical support.

5. Arrangement of Alternative International Flights

To minimize disruption to international flights due to the accident, alternative flights will be arranged, and additional measures will be taken to ensure aviation safety.
