Society, Politics, and Polarization

Is society in South Korea becoming more polarized and divided, just like the United States is?

It seems like American conservatives and liberals cannot agree on anything. Even the most basic things, they will fight about, because they have developed hatred for the other side. They have completely different ideas about what is true, and what is not, so they never come to an agreement on any issues and everyone is left unhappy. The two groups have started to develop different understandings and interpretations of history and current events, which has led to almost everything that one side claims being labeled as misinformation, propaganda, or “fake news,” by the opposing side. There is very little social cohesion left in America.

Some people say that corrupt politicians and biased news broadcasts are causing this problem. Some say that social media is responsible. Some say that the US has a poorly educated population, lacking in critical thinking skills. I think all of those things are part of the American political polarization problem.

In South Korea, as westernization and mass communication increases, are you starting to see increased political division, similar to the United States? Is modern internet media causing any disruption in social cohesion, or damaging critical thinking skills? I would love to hear your perspective! :] Thank you. I’m an American btw.

(Forgive me if this is not the correct subreddit to discuss this.)
