Alongside Stray Kids headlining the Palco Mundo World Stage, Hwasa and Nexz will perform that day. For the first time in the festival’s 41-year history, K-pop artists are not just appearing on the lineup; they are performing on Palco Mundo (World Stage). Rock in Rio is one of the world’s largest and most legendary music festivals. Originating in Brazil in 1985, it is a biennial Brazilian multi-day music festival held at City of Rock in Rio de Janeiro; it has since expanded globally with spin-offs in Lisbon, Madrid, and Las Vegas.
As it is a biennial event, the next festival will take place in 2028, rather than the following year. I’m quite interested to see which Korean artists will be the headliners and sub-headliners for the upcoming 2028 event. To my knowledge, apart from these three, there aren’t any other significant musicians from J-pop or other Asian countries; I could be mistaken, though. The upcoming lineup may feature major names from Japan, China, other Southeast Asian nations, and also global groups.
My guesses:
Katseye, Santos Bravos: They might headline on the common pop music day instead of the K-pop day; same, Santos Bravos might headline/sub-headline at the Latin music lineup. I don’t think HYBE will miss this opportunity.
NMIXX, TXT/ENHYPEN and Cortis will probably either head the bill or take a supporting position on the special K-pop music day, provided they follow the pattern they set this year. The same applies to LSF, Aespa, IVE, XG and ITZY. ILLIT, BND, RIIZE, or any fifth-generation boy group other than Cortis might serve as a supporting act on the same day or on a different day, depending on how the lineup is arranged. Even non-Big 4 company groups have a lot of chances to appear in the lineup.
It might be a surprise if Twice, Blackpink, and BTS could lead the festival, but it wouldn’t be shocking if JYPE sends Twice along with one of its other groups to the 2028 event, similar to what they did with Stray Kids and Nexz this year. Additionally, solo artists such as Taemin, Baekhyun, G-Dragon, and members from BTS or Blackpink could be included, especially since Hwasa is performing this year. Indie groups like Wave to Earth, Day 6, Silica Gel, and others have a possibility of being part of the 2028 lineup.
