Itzy used to be one of my ults. I joined in during wannabe era and really liked their unique concept about self confidence, love and appreciation. Their mv’s and music was about expression, rebellion and breaking norms, so when JYP dropped teaser photos where every member was dressed elegantly with crowns and dresses, everyone got excited, since it was something that was way different from their usual stuff. I think it was why people got disappointed and stopped listening to Itzy when Sneakers dropped, since it seemed as if JYP just went back to their older concept and ignored the potential and hype about the more “elegant” concept.
I get why they posted those photos. The whole song and MV was about what they had always been about, breaking norms, rules and being themselves. They did that through a story where they were princesses wearing sneakers instead of high heels.
Afterwards I actually stopped listening to Itzy as well, not quite following their newer comebacks. I really liked Born to be, yet their newer songs feel quite different from their earlier releases, and I wonder if that’s one reason they don’t seem to get the same reception anymore. Do you think it was actually Sneakers that caused the backlash, or the expectations JYP created with the teaser photos? Is there any way they could recover from this? It’s not a horrible song, but I think it’s more about what JYP made Mitzy’s think they were getting.
Remember, this is all my opinion, and you are open to having your own.
