What do you think about the old controversy involving Jennie’s “Like JENNIE” and the Indian song “Rani”?

I recently came across the old controversy where people pointed out that Jennie’s “Like JENNIE” sounded somewhat similar to the Indian song “Rani”, composed by Pritam. Clips comparing the two songs went viral, and I found some of the reactions from K-pop fans quite interesting.

Some fans argued that Jennie probably hadn’t even heard the song because she’s such a huge star, so it must just be inspiration or coincidence. But honestly, I feel the reaction would be very different if the situation were reversed—if an Indian song had come out after Jennie’s and sounded similar, I feel many people would immediately call it a copy.

What I found even more disturbing was seeing some Jennie fans attacking Alia Bhatt, even though she had nothing to do with composing the song. Some were body/appearance-shaming her, making racist comments, and saying things like “Alia is nobody compared to Jennie.” That seems completely unnecessary to me and is exactly the kind of behavior I consider toxic.

What do you guys think about this situation? Do you think K-pop fandoms sometimes have a double standard when it comes to their idols, and is this kind of behavior justified as “defending” an idol?
