Disclaimer: This post is only calling out the actions of toxic fans and people that tries to bury the actions of these fans due to a stupid stereotype surrounding fans of boy groups.
Whenever there is a discussion surrounding hate and double standards that K-pop girl groups get often times non-fans will say that most of that hate comes from fans of other girl groups. While this is extremely true, this only tells half of the story as toxic fans of boy groups are not innocent either. In fact, there have been many instances of toxic boy group fans attacking girl groups over certain things in K-pop. However, often times this tends to get buried as non-toxic fans don’t want the misogynistic, generalizing stereotype of boy group fans being jealous of women to come true which often comes from misogynistic men. Unfortunately, this tends to become harmful as it allows toxic boy group fans to get away with this and continue their hate towards K-pop girl groups.
Examples like SNSD’s black ocean incident from toxic fans of Super Junior and TVXQ, Dal Shabet receiving hateful messages from toxic fans of B1A4, and toxic fans of BTS accusing Blackpink of sleeping their way to the top are clear examples of internalized misogyny and hate. However, these incidents don’t be discussed and somewhat buried as many had felt that this proves misogynistic men right about boy group fans being jealous of women getting close to their men. However, this can be very damaging as it causes toxic fans of boy groups to get away with attacking girl groups online in which these fans will know that they won’t be called out due to non-toxic fans being scared of this stereotype coming true. I think this is why acknowledging the hate toxic girl group fans target girl groups is very easy as girl group fandoms are made up of both men and women. I think that fans should call out both sides while at the same time criticize this stupid stereotype towards fans of girl groups in K-pop.
