Thoughts on music show awards and voting?

So Iconic By Mistake recently won a show award on M Countdown. I did a lot of campaigning along with other fine fans, and it was really rewarding to see IBM get its much deserved victory. We raised awareness around the voting, and it felt like a real communal experience and joint effort which paid off. I use to find show awards silly but I had a change of heart after talking to cool NSWER in the NMIXX sub.

When Heavy Serenade failed to win a show award on MBC’s ‘Show! Music Core!’, I wrote a comment essentially saying why do NMIXX and NSWER have to get so bent out of shape by this. Afterwards some NSWER explained to me how much meaning that win would have had for Sullyoon given she use to be a host on the show, and she was visibly disappointed they didn’t win.

That led me to researching what show awards mean to idols and I realized they’re viewed as a display of gratitude from the fans. When idols don’t win they take it as thinking they need to work harder for next time. The awards carry real weight in the industry and they imply a group’s traction and popularity to the general pulic. Fans campaign hard for those awards and when a group win it shows that a fandom is united behind the group. Now I love voting in music shows and take pride in the fact that I raised awarness on the voting system in various Kpop subs.

This leads me to my questions to this sub, what do you guys think of show awards and voting on music shows? Did you once find it silly and come around to it, or on the flip side did you ever get wrapped up in it and decide to take a step back from it? Do you simply not participate because it doesn’t jive with your preferred manner of listening to music, something which is completely fine btw. Feel free to share your thoughts on this.
