I’m sure a lot of you have heard about rescene, and I’m sure more of you haven’t. Rescene is a 5th gen gg from a nugu company called muze entertainment that literally debuted a day after Illit. They’ve been blowing up and going South Korea lately over their content and music. Recently, they managed to get 3 of their songs into the top 5 on melon. A feat only achieved by the likes of groups like BTS and New Jeans. All of their content videos and music program videos are getting millions of views.
Now some of you might be thinking, oh they’re going viral. We’ve seen viral groups before. What’s different about rescene? The difference is that rescene’s momentum is being sustained for months now. It’s not just a flash. They just keep getting more and more popular as time goes on and more people find out about them. It’s not like Bboom Bboom or BB girls where people like that one song and then don’t stick around. People came for the personality of rescene through their youtube channel, and they decided that they liked their music too. They got fans first, who also love their music.
Now you might be asking, but but what about muh international popularity. So many international fans don’t know who they are. That doesn’t matter. Anything that gets popular, will get popular internationally. The opposite doesn’t always hold true. Rescene is from a tiny company, but through constant word of mouth, and constant exposure, they’ll eventually become more popular among ifans. IVE isn’t as popular among ifans due to not being a part of the big 4, but they’re still as of now, arguably the #1 fourth gen gg.
But but OP, what about Illit. It’s true that before rescene’s blowup, illit were looking like the 5th gen gg leaders. Illit has had a great year, and their number of endorsements proves it. They went from like 4 in 2025 to 9 in 2026. Wonhee’s solo ads jumped a lot too. Rescene has 12.
As of now, Wonhee is 5th gen’s CF queen, but I don’t think that will last forever either. I did a quick analytics comparison of rescene’s member woni and wonhee. The difference is pretty big. Woni has more searches on youtube, naver and google in korea. Ofc, the searches are more biased towards woni because she’s new and blowing up. However, woni still hasn’t hit her potential. Wonhee has peaked. Every month since may, woni’s searches have been growing and growing and growing. Both are still way lacking compared to the popularity of previous gens, but I think woni is currently the 5th gen member to become the next it girl.
