S.Korean companies open K-food section at Amazon

South Korean small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) will showcase Korean food (K-food) on Amazon, the world’s largest e-commerce platform, the Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs and the Korea Agro-Fisheries & Food Trade Corporation (aT) announced on Sunday.

The ministry and aT have launched a Korean food section on Amazon to expand exports of K-food.

In the section’s initial phase, 10 domestic companies sell 20 products, including ready-to-eat meals like bibimbap, perilla oil, and soy milk.

To establish the K-food section, the ministry and aT invited applications from domestic SMEs producing processed foods in February and March.

47 companies were selected to participate. Additional recruitment is expected to increase the number of participating companies to 70 and the number of products to around 300 by the end of the year.

The ministry also plans to expand the number of Korean food sections in overseas online malls from 11 at the end of last year to 17 by the end of this year.
