Employees at Samsung Electronics are reportedly seeing their value rise in Korea’s marriage market as the semiconductor boom fuels expectations of massive bonuses. According to matchmaking company Sunoo on Monday, Samsung Electronics employees recently saw their so-called “spouse index” rise from 84 to 87 points — approaching the level typically associated with lawyers, who score around 90 points. The spouse index is a matchmaking metric that evaluates marriage prospects based on factors including socioeconomic status, physical attractiveness and family background. A Sunoo official said in an interview with Yonhap News Agency that such scores rarely change significantly. “The spouse index usually barely moves, so a three-point increase is very unusual,” the official said. “It reflects how strongly people of marriageable age prioritize realistic financial conditions.” The trend comes as Korea’s semiconductor industry experiences another rise, with expectations of enormous performance bonuses for employees at major chipmakers.
