Hello, I’m making a Korean inspired Dungeons and Dragons setting, loosely inspired by Korea’s The Three Kingdoms Era.
**My goals for this post is:**
-
Does my magic system make sense for this setting and is culturally appropriate?
-
If anyone has better name ideas for the spirits (Yon) and magic source (Nectar) for the setting?
-
What should I name the magic classes? And what is the best way to implement the magic classes into the setting?
-
Haw do I integrate the sorcerers classes? check the Arcae caster description.
# Spiritcraft & the Spirit World
In this universe there are two mirror worlds: the Physical World & the Spirit World.
The Spiritual World itself is a wild ever-changing realm, where you might be in a volcanic Wasteland, the next you’re in a decrepit swamp, and the next you’ll be in a toxic fungal Forest. It reflects the emotions and desires of the physical world.
**The Yon**
This realm is home to endless spirits of nature, concepts, and ancestors. These spirits are known as Yon. Are either spiritual manifestations of nature such as mountains, stars, or fire. They can also be manifestations of concepts such as rage, Craftsmanship, or conquest. However all souls end here, ancestral spirits mingle with other Yon.
**Creature types & Yon**
D&D has a variety of creatures types, so the Yon represented a variety of these creature types, and what those types can mean different things.
**Celestials** – are often lawful and represents laws community and even traditions
**Fiends** – are often chaotic, representing chaos, power, and Indulgence.
**Elementals** – represent raw energy and natural phenomena.
**Fey** – often represents mortal emotions and feelings.
Aberrations – are manifestations of weird, foreign, or difficult concepts such as memories, dreams, or madness.
**Undead** – are exclusively for ancestral spirits.
**Dragons** – are both spiritual and physical beings. Dragons are manifestations of multiple concepts and her symbols of wisdom. The eldest of dragons also known as Celestial dragons often are leaders of Yon settlements in the spiritual world. Though not always the strongest there Wisdom and blessings are sought out by Yon and mortals alike.
# Spiritual Casters
Those Divine casters such as clerics, paladins, Rangers, Druids, Monks, and Warlocks are developing connections between themselves and Yon.
**Clerics and Paladins** – are gifted with power to harness Spirit energy, Directly tapping into the spiritual world & Mimicking the powers of certain Yon.
**Druids and Rangers** – can harness the spiritual energy residing in the physical world. Allowing them to influence, manupulate, & purify the land and beasts that reside in them.
**Monks** – harness their own internal spiritual energy to perform supernatural feats.
**Warlocks** make contracts with Yon directly siphoning a fraction of their power for themselves.
# Arcane Arts
Where or why the Arcane Arts were made is unknown, the only thing know is that the elves were the prominently the only known users of the Arcane for centuries. A thousand years ago there art was revealed to the world, causing there power in the world to dwindle.
**Fundamentals**
Arcane users learn to seens Nectar, the sorce of Universes Laws. Then they must learn to wield and sculpt Nectar to rewrite the universes laws to there needs.
# Arcane Casters
Different Arcane casters manipulate the Nectar different ways.
**Sorcerers** – are those who are naturally gifted at sensing and manipulating Nectar as if they were breathing.
* This one i need help with as scorcers have bloodline that they get there gifts from, traditional dragons, fey, Angels, etc. If anyone has any ideas on how to smoothly integrate them into the setting id appritate it?
**Wizards** – are casters that have learned the Arcane Arts through study.
**Bards** – can shape Necter through harmonizing with it through there music, song, or dance; allowing them to cast spells
**Artificers** – Imbue Nectar into objects. Creating artifacts that can cast spells for them rather then resulting spells over and over again.
