It was no secret that Blackpink’s 10th anniversary event was a complete disaster and both YG and the members had received valid criticism from Blinks (Blackpink’s fanbase) online. Since then, all four women had released apologies online with the way things had turned out regarding the 10th anniversary event. However, the way nonfans were trying to take advantage of the situation was completely irritating and dissentious as comments questioning the members’ personalities, downplaying their talents, attacking their popularity, downplaying their contribution to the group’s success, and criticized Blinks (Blackpink’s fanbase) for putting up with “mediocrity” during the last ten years. The thing that makes non-fans “concern” stance for Blinks (Blackpink’s fanbase) so hypocritical is that the feel bad for the fandom but at the same time attack the group they stan and criticize Blinks (Blackpink’s fanbase) for liking the group’s music. The most disingenuous of them all is how non-fans mentioned other K-pop groups in a conversation that has absolutely nothing to do with them.
Comments like “xx did this for their fans”, “xx loves their fans, and “xx appreciate their fans” feel more about fans of other K-pop groups wanting to hype up their favorites by using this situation to their advantage. This is not only comments from trolls online as this controversy is being talked about in post and videos in which fans of other K-pop groups using what their favorite groups did against Blackpink under the comment section. Also, the expectations that non-fans have for Blackpink is staggering as you guys criticize them for not writing their own songs yet refuse to call them artists when they do in their solo songs. You guys criticize them for not being synchronized and having easy choreography yet their seniors and peers at YG Entertainment had done the same thing before the group had even debuted. If Blinks like the group focusing more on vocals and rapping than choreography, then let them enjoy these performances from the members.
And before anyone say, “Well, Blackpink is a big group, of course they are going to receive attention from non-fans too”, it is different about the group receiving attention from non-fans than non-fans using this situation to hate on Blackpink and hype up their favorite groups. Blinks (Blackpink) have already held the members and YG accountable for what happened at the 10th anniversary event and doesn’t need non-fans “concerned” sympathy for them if all these non-fans will do is hate on Blackpink and Blinks (Blackpink’s fanbase) while hyping up their favorite groups and the bond between these groups and their fans.
