So recently Bigbang had performed at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium in London to continue their 20th anniversary World Tour. After their show, BBC had released an article reviewing Bigbang’s legacy and heir impact on K-pop. However, one thing that I didn’t like about the article is the mention of BTS and Blackpink as in the title it states that “Before BTS and Blackpink, there was Bigbang: Now the ‘Kings of K-pop’ are back.” In the article, it cites Bigbang’s accolades before BTS had sold out the Wembley Stadium and Blackpink headline Hyde BST Park. The article had did good at highlighting Bigbang’s accolades and their impact on K-pop however the comparisons between them, BTS, and Blackpink were unnecessary.
Bigbang’s name can stand on it’s and their legacy speaks for itself without needing the mention of other big groups in K-pop. Not only that, but this could potentially start fan wars as the relationship between VIPs (Bigbang’s fanbase) and Armies (BTS’ fanbase) is already intense. Like toxic Armies are already dragging Bigbang and comparing their accolades to BTS under the social media account of the BBC. I understand that BTS and Blackpink are one of the most recognized K-pop groups globally and that the BBC is aimed at the general audience inside their country. However, they could have written about Bigbang’s accomplishments, impact, and legacy without bringing in BTS and Blackpink.
