This is long because I’m heated. This has been on my mind for weeks. Since I saw a post on here about it and everyone in the comments HATED it and said that it was childish and belonged on a children’s show??? It irritated me so bad and I’m STILL irritated. I’m gonna get some thoughts out. cw for cussing idk if I need to warn for that but.
I’m a kpop unc and it reminds me so so so much of Crayon Pop (if anyone remembers them😭) and overall the end of 2nd gen and into early 3rd gen. Some 1st gen songs too? The moment I heard it I was like holy SHIT this is JUST like Crayon Pop??? Like Bar Bar Bar and early Girls Generation and their rendition of Dancing Queen. I had such a moment of nostalgia it took me by surprise lmfao. I have no idea if anyone’s said this yet but I had to.
I don’t like the word newgens. But I feel like there’s no other way to describe them? It’s always the same type of people who have never even heard an older kpop song who lose their absolute mind when they hear something that doesn’t absolutely blast your eardrums out because of the sheer overwhelming noise making up the instrumental. I feel so hateful towards people like this.
Don’t get me wrong I love modern kpop. That’s the reason I made this entire post. But the LEVEL of hate this song gets is so ridiculously overwhelming? They act like satan made it. They’re the definition of fun police. Young women making a whimsy song?! NOT ALLOWED.
You might be wondering why I’m so defensive over something like a song but the bottom line of it is that I literally just hate when people hate on something without even understanding it first. If they hated Hot Sauce they’d have been sheer haters in the early days of the Hallyu Wave. People are allowed their own opinions, I’m not discrediting that. But it gets to a point? The sheer dislike for a singular song is beyond me. And it’s NOT EVEN BAD?? ITS JUST A REGRESSIVE SONG? It just takes elements from older genres?! If you threw newgen kpop fans into 2013-2014 for HALF a day, they wouldn’t survive. Do they know the concept of fun. Do they know the concept of a silly song?? I can’t get my head around the rigidness and emptiness of kpop fans now a days. This doesn’t go for all of them ofc. I’m not a ‘mainstream’ band enjoyer. And I only like girl groups in the 5th gen (just talking about the 5th gen, not over all generations!). Because let’s be honest, most of the music now is reproduced for short form content. That’s a fact.
That’s why I think everyone is allergic to fun melodies. BP for example, I don’t mind their music I think it’s enjoyable, but it’s so repetitive. Groups would rather recycle tunes and sounds over stepping outside of their genre and trying something different. Their concepts are all the same, majority of them. They don’t try different themes or concepts anymore either. I can’t even say ‘Music is Progressive’ to this one. I’m all for things developing but when it’s for the better. This just isn’t.
So the moment BABYMONSTER come up with utter peak and decide that they’re going to delve into the silliness and joyous whimsy of nostalgic sounds, newgens start frothing at the mouth and rocking in the corner because it sounds ‘childish’??? It feels so ignorant to me. The first thing I did when I got into kpop was delve into what came before the band I started with? Do kpop fans js not do that anymore??? I can’t even say I’m not mad because I am I’m heated. I hate mob-hating against a song that literally isn’t even bad😭😭 They just have absolutely no culture. Literally none.
‘I don’t like this song so I’m going to call it awful and say it sounds like a children’s song.’ That’s how they sound. That’s when an opinion changes from an opinion to just hate. I saw one, ONE, comment defending the song. Literally one out of minutes of scrolling??? Why are you so content of trying to hate a girl group out of existence. Because this isn’t the first song that’s got a reception like this. Going out of your way to put a song down because you refuse to educate yourself on a musics history shows a MULTITUDE of information about a person. I could very much turn to a song and say ‘This sounds like (insert), that’s an old one. Not my thing but it’s fun sounding.’ ITS NOT HARD. Do they just enjoy spreading misery and anti-fun energy.
When I saw all of the hate I couldn’t help but think Holy fuck could you be anymore like the fun police? Allergic to whimsy and fun. It took me hearing the first 5-10 seconds of Hot Sauce and I started vibrating in my seat. Because I was like no fucking say this is giving absolute peak girl group Crayon Pop. And I started lowk tearing up. I had WAR FLASHBACKS GUYS. It was such a peak time but so much tragedy happened at the same time.
I’m sorry for crashing out so much lmfaooo I think I have a fixation on the song and that’s why I’m genuinely so irritated. I had to get this out. I hope other people see where I’m coming from though?? Do any other kpop uncs see the absolutely uncanny parallel between this song and Crayon Pops discography? Am I valid in this??? What do y’all think.
