A “duh” moment revelation for me in regards to some of the English lyrics in K-Pop songs

Just wanted to proclaim my own ignorance and idiocy at something I never realized. I was watching an interview with Minnie and Yuqi from I-dle and Minnie was talking about how “Queencard” was based off a phrase used in Korean schools basically like the hot girl or popular one, and for boys it would be Kingcard.

Now why this never dawned on me I have no idea but I finally understood that a lot of the “English” lyrics in K-pop songs that don’t really make sense to me are in fact Konglish that makes sense to Koreans.

I felt pretty silly especially ironically since I-dle is a group that I like as people but don’t like a lot of their songs because of my feeling that many of them are nonsensical lyrically when in fact I just am unaware of the phrasing (I assume in a decent number of cases, sometimes it really just doesn’t make sense).

Anyone else have more insight or want to make me feel a little better not being the only one who didn’t realize this?
