Why don’t major K-pop moments get the same media coverage as BTS?

I’ve been wondering about this for a while because the difference in media coverage and PR around BTS compared to other groups can feel pretty wild.

Stray Kids had a huge moment in Mexico yesterday. They had a massive stadium concert, with the South Korean president even attending. That’s objectively a significant cultural and diplomatic moment, yet it doesn’t seem to be getting anywhere near the level of international media attention or amplification that similar BTS related events receive.

And this isn’t meant to take anything away from BTS. Their global impact is obviously enormous. I’m more curious about the PR and media machinery behind these moments. With BTS, it often feels like everything they do becomes a major international news story, gets picked up by multiple outlets, and is amplified everywhere. Other groups can have genuinely historic or significant moments and it barely extends beyond K-pop media and fandom spaces.

Is it simply because BTS have reached a level of mainstream recognition that makes media outlets automatically interested, or is there something else happening behind the scenes with PR, media relationships and international coverage?

I’d genuinely be interested in hearing from people who understand the industry side of this.
