1st gen legend, Ok Joo Hyun (Fin.K.L) slams artists who heavily rely on autotune & post production

She recently wrote this on Bubble:

These days, no matter how bad a singer is, they use autotune and post-production so intensely that it really annoys those who prefer live performances. This is something fellow singers and sunbaes often talk about when we get together.
We need the authenticity of truly live performances. There’s value in singing live, making mistakes, and realizing what you need to improve. But because of all the autotuning and pitch correction, takes that we’d normally think, “There’s no way this could ever be aired or released,” end up sounding strangely polished after they’re tuned.
Whenever I’m invited to music shows, I don’t want to be associated with them.
You might feel that what I’m saying is rude. But it’s the truth. Seeing how people use so much autotune for post-production these days, it feels like everyone and their mothers can just get up on stage and call themselves singers.

If you guys don’t know, Ok Joohyun is a 1st generation idol from the legendary group Fin.K.L, yes the same group Lee Hyori was a member of. She was an exceptional vocalist during her idol days and has since built a stellar reputation as one of Korea’s top musical actresses.

In the newest generation of K-pop, I think it’s fair to say the overall standard of live vocals is at its lowest point yet. Many groups rely heavily on autotune and post production, and even the performance videos and shows idols appear on are often processed so heavily that they barely sound like the singers themselves.

What do you think about her comments? Did she go too far, or is her criticism justified?
