BESTie debuted in 2013 under YNB Entertainment with the song Pit-a-Pat and continued to release music as a group until 2015. Three members had first debuted as EXID, but left because of contractual issues. Bestie released songs such as “Thank U Very Much,” “I Need You,” “Excuse Me,” and “Hot Baby.” However, they failed to gain in popularity and the group and company fizzled out. Recently, an edit of their song “Love Options” set to Heart to Heart’s choreography went viral, causing many to rediscover the group, and for the song to become a new short-form trend online. Comments praise their amazing live singing (especially main vocal Uji, whose voice is stunning), catchy songs, and model-like physiques. Most of all, commenters are asking the group to come back, at least for a special performance.
The members have remained in the entertainment industry since the group disbanded, with Uji as a musical actress, Hyeyeon as a trot singer, Haeryeong as an actress, and Dahye as a content creator (though most now know her from the dating program “Transit Love”).
There have been various examples of old songs going viral online in recent years, and of disbanded or inactive groups making a comeback. Ironically, EXID was the original “chart-reversal” group when Up and Down went viral months after its release. Heck, I don’t think this is even the first time a BESTie song experienced a resurgence in interest post-disbandment. But a nugu group that promoted for three years and has been inactive for ten? Who knows what could come of it.
