The “Everything Is Controlled” Narrative Is Getting Out of Hand.

One thing that frustrates me is how people treat K-pop idols like they’re just puppets with no free will. Yes, the industry is incredibly strict and companies have a huge amount of influence compared to many Western entertainment industries. But to assume every smile, every friendship, every joke, every emotion, and every interaction is completely scripted makes K-pop feel less human than it really is.

These are still people. They have their own humour, personalities, opinions, and relationships. Media training exists in almost every entertainment industry. Actors, athletes, politicians, and Western pop stars are all coached on what to say in interviews and how to present themselves. K-pop may be more extreme, but that doesn’t erase the authenticity of the people behind it.

I think it’s important to acknowledge both realities at the same time, the industry can be restrictive, and idols can still be genuine human beings.
