Kingdom Legendary War – What Was it Like to Watch at the Time?

I’m a relatively new K-pop fan who has started to get into both newer groups and older groups. Through some kind of YouTube rabbit hole, I ended up watching a few videos from Kingdom: The Legendary War, and I was blown away by some of the performances! I was previously unaware of all of groups except for Ateez and Stray Kids and wound up with so many new songs to add to my playlists. The Round 2 performances where the groups traded songs I thought were fantastic, particularly BtoB “Back Door”, Ateez “Rhythm Ta”, Ikon “Inception” and SKZ “Pray”. SF9 I loved their cover of “Move” and finale song, ditto The Boyz I thought they did a great job with “Monster” (which is one of my favorite bg songs so far) and their finale song. And all the groups seemed supportive of each other, it was so cool to see them appreciating individual and collective talents ( I watched the YT versions where there were cutaways to the groups watching so got to see all the reactions). I thought it was a great way for me as a newer K-pop fan to get introduced to a wide range of artistry and performance and get more exposure to how talented the artists can be; for example I was aware of SKZ but hadn’t paid particular attention to anyone, so Han Jisung being this great rapper but then has a phenomenal voice in “Pray” was a huge surprise to me (and it seemed to many of the other groups).

With all that said, I’m so curious how older K-pop fans liked and reacted to Kingdom. It seems like from YT comments there were fan wars but also some kind of MNET issue with budget lies to some groups? (MNET is the snake in the Boyz Monster? I don’t know the lore here lol) and maybe MNET (staff? Not sure who) treated some groups worse than others?

I guess i am curious about more of the behind the scenes things and how fans liked Kingdom at the time; watching the clips now it felt so celebratory and good spirited among the groups, so seems interesting to compare to how people felt about it then.

And follow up to ask: is there more Kingdom content I should watch if I only watched the reaction performance videos? And if I liked this, should I watch Queendom clips next?
