This is both an appreciation and a rant. I love Yves’ music, her and her creative team are absolutely hitting it out of the park. Her music from debut has been nothing but great, catchy and artsy. But, and I’m sorry if this ruffles some feathers, every single comment section mentions how gay she is. Whether she’s gay or not isn’t the issue. The problem is, Yves’ whole being has been reduced to her being lesbian.
On any video/Instagram reel where Yves is, the comments always have to mention that she’s gay, that she’s for the girls and what not. It wouldn’t be a problem if people also talked about her talent, her singing, her dance skills. Her music is unlike anything you hear in mainstream Kpop (in my opinion). Her new album is absolutely wonderful.
There will be a few comments talking about her as an artist, but a good majority are about her being lesbian. Now, I don’t recall Yves ever saying anything explicitly. But people will say that she’s been leaving “hints and clues”. Almost everything she does is overanaysed so people can look at one thing and say “Yves confirm she’s a lesbian!”. It’s starting to feel a bit creepy and borderline fetishistic? It’s starting to look like the way Gaylors look for any clue that Taylor Swift is gay.
It just feels so reductive. Yves is more than her sexual orientation.
