I don’t know if just me or something but I feel like there are so many mid tier bgs, like loads but the same can’t be said for ggs for some reason. Are the top ggs just hogging the whole gg market or something? Plus it feels like even if a gg like Stacy, izna or kep1er sorts of breaks into a mid to high tier they eventually sort of fall of or in a less harsh way decline.
To compare, I’ll make a list of mid tier bgs (sell 100k plus):
500k-750k (High Mid Tier Groups):

So thats 25 bgs who are considered mid tier and there’s probably more considered this tier too, I just forgot about them.
Note: Technically much older bgs (2nd gen) like highlight, infinite, super junior, 2pm, shinee etc sell in this range but I don’t know if I should consider them mid tier as they once were the top bgs and many of the members are popular anyway in the gp.
Yet when you think of mid tier ggs, like these are there only ones I can think of. Girl groups have lower sales in general and so I’ll consider that in the ranking:
High- mid tier:
Kiiikiii (if they repeat 404 then high tier but too early to tell) 100k
Meovv (if they had higher sales and charting in the top 10 make them a high tier group but the last single failed to enter top 100) 200k
Itzy (good sales but dont chart) 300k
Triples (good sales but dont chart) 400k but albums are very cheap so like 200-250k
Fromis9 (good chart but sales aren’t as high) 100k
Izna 220k (dont really Chart)
Mid Tier:
Stayc (eh chart but decent sales) 100k
Kiof (same) 100k
Fifty-fifty (same) 100k
Low-Mid Tier:
Rescene (rising fast currently though, eh sales and decent chart) 60-80k
Kep1er (decent sales and no chart) 70k

So 12 girl groups to 25 boy groups. Is there a reason why there is such a big discrepancy between the two that there are more than double the amount of bgs?
Also people have told me what I’ve counted as mid tier is too high of a definition and some groups should be counted as a higher tier than they currently are.
But I feel like the whole point of a top tier group is that there aren’t many of them hence needing high classification to enter. For a bg I feel like you are a top bg if you sell 1 mil plus and for a gg you need at least 350k+ sales at minimum and at least good charting whether domestic or global or both.
For example, kiiikiii competes with h2h and illit as of very recently on domestic charts with all of them hitting top three and kiiikiii actually hitting the highest peak (#1) although illit did have higher peak of uls. But the other two have very good sales along with their charting (h2h with 450k and illit with 550k) and both do incredibly well on Spotify hitting the global Spotify whilst kiiikiii only has 100k sales and their peak Spotify streams is like 600k . Hence why they’re not a top tier group but on the cusp as a high mid tier group, if that makes sense.
