It’s pretty standard for girl groups to take choreography created by professional choreographers and adapt it to fit their own vibe and performance style. However, I feel like there’s a rare group of idols who are exceptionally good at improvising and dancing freestyle.
Here are a few that come to my mind (though they’re all mostly recent gen idols):
Bailey (ADP)
→ She was originally a high-level street dancer and choreographer active in the US, so freelstyling is naturally second nature to her. Just looking at how she uses her joints, her power and groove are on a level that completely shatters the standards for K-pop girl groups—or honestly, girl groups worldwide. She’s easily the ultimate main dancer in the global girl group scene right now.
Iroha (ILLIT)
→ Everyone knows her incredible performance skills, where she casually delivers super cute vibes in ILLIT while simultaneously hitting us with heavy-hitting hip-hop. But on top of that, I noticed her improvised freestyle is also super solid thanks to her insane athleticism.
Also, a bit of a niche pick, but
Lana (VVS)
→ She was the runner-up in the Kids category at DANCE ALIVE, which makes you wonder, “Why did someone with that background even decide to become a K-pop idol?!” Her freestyle skills are ridiculously high level. On top of that, she’s a total visual who reminds me of Giselle. She’s basically the full package lol.
