I opened Reddit today just to see some bullshit about how Cortis were saying/doing something insensitive again (which was of course taken out of context). Now I absolutely have my problems with Cortis but, and I shouldn’t have to say this, spreading misinformation is always bad no matter who it’s about.
But the last paragraph of this post is what I really want to talk about, because the OP felt the need to end off their post with a paragraph saying, 99% of Cortis’ audience is women and if they ever were to develop a male audience it would be those girls boyfriends or maybe they’re just gay because no straight man would listen ever listen to *one of their songs (I don’t remember which one and I don’t care to check).
Now I am paraphrasing a bit but every one of these things were said in that paragraph and like, do certain kpop stans not have the ability to see that they’re being ungodly misogynistic (and in this case homophobic as well) or do they just not care. This whole “only teenage girls listen to kpop” thing has been around for so long at this point and a lot of the time people still take it as an insult as well as try to combat it with “that’s not true here are the demographics of my faves or whatever”. Even if a fan base is mostly women, genuinely who cares? I’m exhausted that majority female fanbases are still way more scrutinized for exactly the same things that majority male fanbases can get away with without a second glance.
