What if kpop could exist without actual idols

With the success of kpop demon hunters, I’ve been wondering if companies may be consider debuting animated groups. If so, then the possibility of an AI group marketed as a kpop group may not be so far fetched. With the speed at which AI is advancing, it’s becoming increasingly harder to distinguish between AI and reality. And it may get to a point or may have already gotten to a point where AI is able to make very solid imitations of various aspects of real life, including music. Now if a company had an AI tool make good catchy music and just made a punch of pixelated characters sing and dance to this tunes, they have a kpop group. If they decided to market this group as an authentic idol group with real people that are choosing to stay anonymous and hidden from the limelight, then I wonder if the public be able to tell the difference.

I brought this up because I had seen someone point out something that I have been pondering for a while since KPDH came out: no one seems to care about the actual singers of these songs. The chart placement for these groups are based on their fictional names with little mention of the actual singers. Even the discussion of the songs, not the movie itself, is centered around the members of the groups. Now we’ve always known that kpop is heavily concerned with visuals, not unlike many other music industries. Music fans in general like when artists are tangible people that they can appreciate. However, I had always assumed that the artist would have to be human to enable people connect with them as artists but KPDH appears to to be proving otherwise. And if music agencies and companies are paying close attention to the success of the movie, especially on the current music drought we are in, there may be potential for a situation for that to arise. I am interested to see what would happen of such a group is created and goes to win a ton of awards and achieve global stardom, only to be outed as an intricately crafted lie. The meltdown will be one for the ages, especially since there would be no actual idols to blame or criticize, just pixelated characters and a bunch of execs with heavier pockets.
