So I’m Indian. And I obviously fully agree that kpop takes a lot from black and brown people’s music especially more black people. Like there’s so many kpop songs where I’m like “damn this company had no shame in ripping this black artist off”
However, I can’t help but be a little annoyed when people try to bring the fun mood down by making this point consistently even in moments were fans are just trying to enjoy the song.
Am I aware that some kpop idols made fun of desi people? Yes. I am. I’m aware they ripped off desi aesthetics for plenty of music videos and you know appropriated. But like I don’t even listen to those idols really as far as I know
And I guess where I’m trying to end on is I don’t understand why some people like purposefully start writing essays under the most innocent tweets or TikToks. Like you could post idk I like this song and it’s a fun summer song and I’ll see comments being like “ew why do you like them they’re just ripping off this black or brown artist”
Like I don’t think anyone disagrees that every kpop group has taken lots of inspiration from either black culture or desi culture or really any culture like these days I’ve noticed a lot of songs that have taken a Latin influence
I just don’t understand like constantly trying to bring down the mood? Like if I hear a Bollywood inspired kpop song and I like it I’m gonna like it, you know? But that also doesn’t mean I’m not listening to the original songs from the original cultures either
I hope my ramblings made sense. Like yes I completely agree kpop rips off so many cultures but sometimes the song is just good and I like it and I don’t understand why people have a problem with that idea especially if we still listen to the originals as well.
