I see so many good dancers in kpop being called “over dancers” when in reality they’re just doing the moves more energetically and putting their own flair into it unlike their group members, who might sometimes be dancing too low energy or robotic. I know this might be unpopular since kpop prioritizes uniformity and synchronization over actually being able to groove, which is why so many kpop idols are not able to freestyle or pull off certain styles of dance well that require that innate ability to groove (like the viral Brazilian dance). But I really think kpop fans should educate themselves more on what real dancing actually looks like. When you look at top choreographers or dancers perform, they use much more energy and put much more of their own personalities into the moves to the point where I think some of these kpop fans who get angry over idols overdancing would have a stroke watching them dance. And dancing is a very raw form of self expression at it’s root. We need to stop this trend of calling certain idols “overdancers” when they’re just putting their own flair into it or doing it more energetically like real professional dancers would. Daniela, ahyeon, and jihyo come to mind when I think of the specifics
