I‘ve played the gayageum for 20 years. Korean court music follows your breath, not a beat

Hi everyone!
I’m a gayageum player in Seoul.

What I love about jeongak, old Korean court music, is that it doesn’t follow an even beat. The rhythm follows the length of a breath, so each note lingers and trembles before the next one comes.

Soon I’ll be playing it live for a yoga class a friend runs, and I’m curious to see if people’s breathing slows down with the music.

Has anyone here tried listening to gugak while doing yoga or meditation? Curious how it feels to people who didn’t grow up with it!
